Introducing Paid Subscriptions

Posted on April 14th, 2025. Updated May 1st, 2025.

When I first launched StageHub, the goal was simple: build a powerful yet easy-to-use tool that empowers theatre organizations of all sizes - from community groups to large-scale & professional companies - to manage their shows efficiently. What started as a passion project quickly became something more, as hundreds of stage managers, directors, and performers started using StageHub to simplify their rehearsals, communications, and scheduling.
Over the past two and a half years, your feedback, ideas, and enthusiasm have shaped StageHub into what it is today. I’ve heard incredible stories about how the platform has streamlined complex scheduling, dramatically improved cast communications, and significantly reduced the stress of managing busy productions.
To keep this momentum going and to continue investing in exciting new features, enhancements, and improvements, it's time to enter the next stage of the journey...

Starting June 1st, 2025, StageHub will officially introduce paid subscriptions*

Why now?

Well, to be honest, the original plan was to announce this on April 1st, the start of the new calendar quarter. But April Fool's Day seemed like an unwise choice, and the "liberation day" that followed seemed like it wasn't worth adding more fuel to the fire. Up until now, I have been paying out of pocket for all platform-related expenses, and while I have had some grants from Microsoft, Intercom & Segment, those will be expiring towards the start of the summer. In order to continue investing my time & resources into the platform, I need to ensure it can stand upright on its own.

What Happens Next?

Nothing for now! You may continue to use the platform free of charge until June 1st, 2025. About a week beforehand, you’ll get an email reminding you about the upcoming subscription model and will have the opportunity to pre-select a plan. Billing (or extended trials) will go into effect on the 1st of June.
I recognize that many folks already have budgets settled for the remainder of their season, and are also likely mid-rehearsal-process right now. To ease the transition, any organization that signed up for StageHub before April 1st, 2025 will be given an extended one-month trial that can be applied to any production of their choosing, once subscriptions begin. This is in addition to the 14-day-trial that all current and future organizations will be able to use. Effectively making StageHub free for many until the start of July 2025.

Looking Ahead

I have a lot of exciting plans that will start to rollout late spring and early summer. Things like casting/auditions, organization management (think about stuff like handling volunteers for ushers & box office), as well as project management features for handling large builds and multiple teams.

If you haven't already, please check out the roadmap for StageHub - and add or upvote your favorite features. That will be the driving force moving forward on what I will build next while also maintaining existing features. (There's also a very exciting refresh of the UI coming soon, too).

Thank you for being part of the StageHub community. I'm incredibly excited about this next chapter and can't wait to see what we accomplish together!

You might have some questions!

What if I don't do anything?

If you don’t subscribe to a paid plan, your production(s) will automatically downgrade to the Free Plan, which offers limited functionality for folks with 10 or fewer members in their production. You can upgrade to a paid plan at any time to restore full functionality or delete or archive the production entirely.

How did you decide on pricing?

I did my best to create four plans (including a free one!) that would balance with the average ticket sale for the type of organization that would likely subscribe. I get it - budgets can sometimes be paper-thin, and I want to make sure that folks have the opportunity to use StageHub, while also putting it in a position to grow over the next few months.

How does the discount work?

Each eligible organization will have the option to apply a one-month trial to any production, either right away on June 1st, or for a future production. You may only use this once. All organizations (existing and new ones) will also receive a 14-day trial (single use) that can be applied to a production.

How do I know if I am eligible?

Any organization that was created before April 1st, 2025 will be eligible. In the coming weeks, you'll be able to see what discounts or promotions are available, in the platform.

Do I need to give you a credit card?

You won't need to provide a credit card until you're ready to convert to a paid subscription (and if you use your discount right away, you won't need to provide a credit card for another month until it has been used up).

I still have questions!

Definitely start by reading the FAQ section on the pricing page - that will always have the most up-to-date information on paid subscriptions. If you still have questions, feel free to reach out to me via Intercom (the help icon in the app) or at support@stagehub.com. You're always welcome to email me directly as well, but messaging me through one of the other channels helps me stay better organized with incoming inquiries and suggestions.
